Who has the best housing policy this election?

Housing affordability is an issue vital to Quebec voters, especially in the Greater Montreal Area where it is in short supply. There are many solutions politicians can enact to help solve this issue, so what solutions are on the parties platforms this election? Our group came up with a policy list to make this policy list and ranked the platforms of the top parties in the province against it.

These policies address supply issues; removing barriers to construction, but also factors in their impact on the environment, and making sure it is done in a socially equitable way for those most in need. It’s more than just building taller, it’s about building smarter to accommodate the needs of Montreal’s population. Solutions like mixed neighbourhoods, ending parking minimums and encouraging densification.

This and many other issues are graded in our scorecard, so use it as a resource to help you determine who to vote for this fall. There are many other relevant issues, but having a roof over your head is one of the most important, so keep these in mind as you cast your ballot.

*These scores are subject to change and we will do our utmost to correct them as party policies develop.

Policies were suggested and voted on by members of More Montreal. More Montreal advocates for a responsible and durable way to fight the housing crisis by adding more homes, be they publicly funded or market-rate housing. Join our discord to discuss issues and find out about our upcoming events.
